You care about your code. We care about your health.
Do you contribute to open source? Then Snapkin is free for a year. A healthy body and a healthy mind make for healthy open source work.
Every feature for 12 months. No card needed.
Healthy contributors make healthy projects
Long evenings, late releases and a desk full of snacks. Open source work is hard on the body. We want to help with that part.
More energy for your projects
Open source runs on evenings and weekends. When you eat well, you have more energy left for reviews, issues and releases.
Tracking that takes seconds
Take a photo of your plate. Snapkin counts the calories and the protein for you. No scale and no barcodes.
Our way of saying thank you
Snapkin is built on open source software. Your work is part of the reason it exists.
The whole app, not a free version
Your account works exactly like a paid one. Nothing is held back.

Who can ask
- You had a contribution merged into an open source project in the last 12 months.
- Code, docs and translations all count.
- You maintain a project? You can ask too.
How to ask
- Email hello@getsnapkin.app with a link to your GitHub, GitLab or Codeberg profile.
- Add the email address you want to use for Snapkin. Already have an account? Use the address of that account.
- We send you an invitation. Open it, and Snapkin is free for 12 months. No card needed.
We read every request ourselves. After a year, still contributing? Just ask again.
Snapkin runs on open source
A few of the projects we use every day. Thousands of people built them, mostly for free.
-
PHP
The language the server is written in.
-
Laravel
The framework behind the server and this site.
-
Svelte
Every screen of the app.
-
Capacitor
Turns those screens into an iPhone and Android app.
-
Vite
Builds the app and this site.
-
Pest
Runs the thousands of tests behind each release.
-
Linux
Runs our servers, and every Android phone too.
-
Caddy
The web server in front of it all.
Contributed to one of these? Then you helped build Snapkin. Thank you!
Before you send that email
Does a small contribution count?
Yes. A fixed typo in the docs counts, as long as it was merged. We do not count lines.
I do not use GitHub. Can I still ask?
Yes. Send a link to wherever your work is: GitLab, Codeberg, a mailing list archive or your project's own site.
I already pay for Snapkin. What now?
Ask anyway. Your free year starts when you open the invitation. Then cancel your subscription in the App Store or Google Play, so you do not pay twice.
What happens after 12 months?
Your free year ends. Still contributing? Email us and we add another year. If not, you can pick a subscription in the app.
Is there a catch?
Nope! You do not have to write about Snapkin or share anything. If you like it, tell a friend. But you never have to.
What happens to my data?
The same as for everybody else. There are no ads and no tracking. Your food diary is never sold and never used to train anybody's AI.
