Snapkin is a calorie tracker built around one idea. People do not quit calorie trackers because the numbers are wrong. They quit because the logging is work. Weighing rice, scanning barcodes and picking the right oatmeal out of a list of fourteen takes time and effort. Nobody keeps that up for long. So Snapkin asks for one thing per meal: a photo. It works out the numbers itself.

What it is honest about

We tested Snapkin on 500 meals that were weighed on a scale. On a typical meal photographed with a phone, it was within 17% of the scale. We think that is accurate enough to track with. A photo still cannot show everything, like the oil in the pan. So every meal shows what Snapkin assumed, and you can correct it. The test, the studies and their limits are on the research page.

It puts protein first for the same reason. When you eat less than you burn, you lose weight. Protein decides how much of that weight is fat and how much is muscle. So protein is a minimum to reach, not a limit to stay under. It gets the big dial.

How it is built

  • Your food diary is not for sale, is not shared with advertisers, and is not used to train anybody's AI.
  • There is no analytics, no tracking code and no advertising network anywhere. The one thing we measure is how well our own ads work, on our own server.
  • Photographs are stored privately. The app shows them to you through links that stop working after a short time. If you share a meal, anyone with that link can see its photo.
  • One subscription, monthly or yearly, no free version, nothing extra to pay later. What you pay for is the whole app.
  • You can delete everything yourself, from inside the app, in a few taps.

Who makes it

Snapkin is an independent product, built and run by Robot Studios IT Consultancy BV. No advertising business is behind it, and there is none to fall back on. That is why it costs money.

The person behind it is Mattias Geniar, a software developer in Belgium. This Snapkin is the calorie tracker. Other products with the same name are not related to it.
