A target is for glancing at, and an app you have to open to glance at is an app you check twice a day. On the Home Screen it is the thing you see on the way to something else. That is the moment the decision gets made.

Two sizes, and they say different amounts

  • The small one is the ring. How far round you are and how many grams are left. One glance, no reading.
  • The wide one adds the sentence. The grams so far against the target, and the added sugar ring next to it. Enough to decide what dinner has to be without opening anything.

What it does when it does not know

A widget is the one surface where being wrong is worse than being blank, because nobody goes and checks it against the app.

  • It moves when you eat, not on a timer. Photograph a meal and the dial has already redrawn by the time you are back on the home screen. At midnight it rolls over to the new day on its own.
  • Added sugar rides along. The small ring is the day against your sugar ceiling: what is left of it, or how far past it you went. Amber when you go over, never red.
  • It never draws a number it does not have. Signed out, or a day nobody has told it about yet, and it says so. An empty dial would read as "you have eaten nothing", which is a different thing entirely.

There is no Android widget iPhone, both widget sizes, back to iOS 15. There is no Android home screen widget yet. The Android app is the same app in every other way. But if the widget is the reason you are here and you are on Android, read that sentence again now rather than after you have paid.
